Lent is an old English word meaning 'lengthen'. Lent is observed in spring, when the days begin to get longer. They are called Lent because that is the Old English word for spring, the season of the year during which they fall. This is something unique to English. In almost all other languages its name is a derivative of the Latin term Quadragesima, or "the forty days." We start our Lent today with the Ash Wednesday. Let us pray that this Lent of ours be meaningful and grace filled. Let us dedicate all our efforts of this Lent to the unity and peace of our Union. In 'Strong and Constant' Fr. Anderson reflects that 'through your pain, you will discover me'. We should never stop at discovering that we are going through pain alone, we also have the responsibility to discover God in that pain.
