1. The name of the Congregation is the Society of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
2. We are a religious Society dedicated to works of the apostolate. We become members by professing public vows of obedience, chastity and poverty in a response to a call from God. Through this consecration to the Lord, we commit ourselves to live the spirit of the Society, to take part in its mission and to share our lives together in it as brothers, faithful to these Constitutions.
3. Father Jules Chevalier was deeply moved by the evils that afflicted the people of his time. As he contemplated the Heart of Christ, in whom is revealed the compassionate love of the Father, he discovered there the remedy for the ills of the world. Inspired by that love and guided by the Holy Spirit, he founded within the Church the Society of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.
4. We too are inspired by the same gift our Founder received. In our communion as brothers, we live our faith in the compassionate love of the Lord; at the same time, we are sent into the world to proclaim the Good News of the love and kindness of God our Saviour and to bear witness to it in the whole of our lives.
5. Our Founder wanted to express all this in the motto he gave us: May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be loved everywhere.
Blessed are you, God our Father. You chose us and called us to serve in your presence, and to fullfil all righteousness by entering into your loving plans that the world might believe.
R. Blessed are you Lord, God of tenderness and love.
Blessed are you, Christ our Savior. You love each one of us with the tenderness of the Good Shepherd, with a love so great that you gave your life for us. Your heart, piereced on Calvary, reveals the depths of your love for the Father and for the human race that you save.
R. Blessed are you Lord, God of tenderness and love.
Blessed are you, Spirit of Holiness. You raised up, in the Church, Father Jules Chevalier, our Founder. He walked in your presence. Grant that we too (on the occasion of ...) may know how to be led in your ways so that we may be the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart that the Church and the world need at the dawn of the third millennium.
R. Blessed are you Lord, God of tenderness and love.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, humble handmaid of the Lord, you lived in the presence of God. With deep affection you loved Your Son of the Father. You walked with Him on the way of the Cross. You became our Mother. You opened your heart to the Spirit of Holiness so as to live in righteousness. Help us to live as you did. Be our Mother always. Amen.
May the love of the Father be upon us. May the love of the Son be in us. May the love of the Spirit be our communion. Amen
